When Is an Iris Bouquet a Great Gift, and What Does This Flower Symbolize?
The iris takes its name from Iris, the Greek goddess of the rainbow and messenger of the gods, who descended to Earth along a rainbow. In the modern language of flowers, irises symbolize hope, trust, wisdom, faithfulness, and good news.
Thanks to their slender, upright form, irises are suitable for a wide variety of occasions. They are also among the flowers that make a wonderful gift for men. Their straight, sturdy, sword-shaped stems symbolize courage, resilience, and nobility. Blue irises are often given to business partners, teachers, and colleagues.
The flower's distinctive structure — with three petals pointing upward and three curving downward — makes irises especially appealing to creative people. They symbolize inspiration and the three stages of the creative process: the idea, its realization, and success.
Irises are also a wonderful choice for spring celebration bouquets. They pair beautifully with mimosa, tulips, anemones, and other flowers, creating a sense of blossoming and the joy of life.
How to Care for Iris Bouquets
Irises have a moderate vase life, typically staying fresh for 3–5 days under indoor conditions. To help them last longer, we recommend placing them in very cold water — you can even add ice — and keeping them in a cool part of the room, away from direct sunlight. Trim the stems at a 45° angle using quality pruning shears or a sharp knife. Replace the water with fresh water every other day.
